Pregnant Suspect Assisted by Mandaluyong Police
In the early hours of Tuesday (July 18, 2023), the Mandaluyong City Police apprehended Marlyn Medina, a 33-year-old woman who was on the list of the top 5 most wanted individuals in the city.
The arrest was made based on a warrant of arrest issued by Mandaluyong RTC Branch 210 Judge Cristina Mabazza for allegedly violating Section 5, Article 2 of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Despite being pregnant, the warrant was considered valid, having been issued back in 2019.
Colonel Cesar Gerente, the head of the Mandaluyong City Police, emphasized that the warrant was still active and that they did not believe in rumors suggesting that Medina might have been granted parole.
Upon receiving a report from the intelligence team led by Captain Antonio Tan Jr., the Mandaluyong Police coordinated and located the suspect’s whereabouts in Barangay Rosario, Pasig City. The officers approached her residence and served the warrant for her arrest.
During the arrest, it was discovered that Marlyn Medina was seven months pregnant. Witnessing her emotional state, Colonel Gerente immediately sought guidance from the city’s social worker.
He expressed concern about the difficult experience of pregnancy, particularly in detention, and acknowledged the officers’ compassionate approach as fathers, siblings, and individuals who had witnessed the challenges of pregnancy.
While in custody, the police officers took a compassionate approach towards Medina’s situation. They provided her with milk and towels to ensure her well-being.
“Noong nakita ko talaga siya nakakaawa kasi umiiyak siya. Nag-seek ako ng guidance dito sa city social worker na sana itong pagkakahuli namin pag na-inquest na-turn over yung warrant napunta na siya sa kulungan, ang pulis naman may puso po kami bilang ama, bilang kapatid, bilang naranasan ko yung asawa ko nabuntis ay mahirap ang pagbubuntis lalo sa ngayon,” Gerente
The Mandaluyong Police pledged to take care of her during her stay in their custody and monitored her condition to guarantee her safety and health.
Medina, in turn, expressed her appreciation for the care she received while in the hands of the Mandaluyong Police. She acknowledged that they had been attentive to her needs and well-being during this challenging time.
“Ok naman po kasi di naman din po ako pinabayaan ng mga pulis ng Mandaluyong. Sinusubaybayan naman po nila ako dito tinitingnan nila kung ok yung lagay ko rito,” the suspect said.
