Is it true that Paul Soriano will not be the director of SONA this year?
Reports surfaced that filmmaker Paul Soriano will no longer be the director of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2023 of President Bongbong Marcos.
It is known to many that Direk Paul’s father is the cousin of PBBM’s wife Liza Araneta-Marcos. The current president is also the wedding godfather of the director with actress-host Toni Gonzaga.
Both Direk Paul and Toni were active during the campaign season last year. The director was the man behind the campaign ads for PBBM.
During PBBM’s inauguration, it was Toni Gonzaga who sang the Philippine National Anthem Lupang Hinirang. Paul Soriano also directed the first SONA of PBBM.
In a recent article by entertainment writer Salve Asis in Pang-Masa, it was said that Direk Paul will not be the director of the second State of the Nation Address of President Bongbong Marcos.
It was said that the Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) will be the entity in-charge in this. As of this writing, the RTVM has not mentioned anyone yet who will direct the SONA 2023.
The columnist also said that there is a possibility that Direk Paul might have turned this stint down because of the fact that Toni is set to give birth.
House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed this. “Ang information na nakuha namin from the Office of the President and the Presidential Communications Office, the RTVM will take care of it. In other words yung mga beterano nila sabi nila kayang-kaya nila because these people, they know what to do already. RTVM will take care of it,” he said.
Direk Paul Soriano is the current Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications. being head of this agency put him in several controversies. There were negative reactions regarding the documentary he did with Fil-Am actress Vanessa Hudgens to promote the tourism industry.
