Sleepy Driver Accidentally Crashes Into Parked Truck in Laguna

A helper has tragically lost his life after a dozing driver accidentally crashed into a parked truck in San Pablo City, Laguna. 

On Thursday morning (November 13, 2025), a truck driver accidental crashed into a parked truck along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Sta. Vicente after he accidentally falls asleep.  

According to a report from the San Pablo City Police Station, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. A dump truck was parked on the side of the road while its driver took a short break to rest and have coffee.

Moments later, another truck, a rebuilt vehicle traveling toward Tiaong, Quezon, suddenly rammed into the rear of the parked truck. 

The impact was so strong that the helper, identified as John Michael Montañez Manaoat, 32, from Bauang, La Union, sustained severe injuries. Responders from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) quickly rushed him to San Pablo District Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. 

The driver of the moving truck, Raymund Peralta Natino, 54, from Pangasinan, admitted that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to veer off toward the shoulder and crash into the parked vehicle. He also suffered minor injuries from the collision.

Authorities said Natino is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property. Police reminded motorists, especially truck drivers traveling long distances, to take proper rest before driving to avoid similar accidents. 

The accident reminds the public of how fatigue and drowsiness can become deadly on the road.
