Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Dinagat Islands, July 15, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.3 magnitude quake in Dinagat Islands, Saturday, July 15, 2023.
Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Sulu a few months ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Dinagat Islands. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.3.
The earthquake that struck Dinagat Islands, Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 02:54 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Loreto in Dinagat Islands.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Dinagat Islands was located at 10.42°North, 125.42°East – 019 km North 71° West of Loreto. It had a depth of focus of 008 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
Intensity III
- Hinunangan and Hinundayan, Southern Leyte
- Tubajon, Dinagat Island
Intensity IV
- Loreto, Dinagat Islands
Instrumental Intensities:
Intensity I
- Dulag, Leyte
Intensity III
- Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
