Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Davao Occidental, July 12, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental, Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Sulu a few months ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental, Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 12:47 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Balut Island in the Municipality of Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 03.83°North, 126.43°East – 208 km South 33° East of Balut Island. It had a depth of focus of 001 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
