Cadet Wears Delivery Rider Uniform of Father at Graduation Party

Cadet Goes Viral for Earing Father’s Delivery Rider Uniform at Graduation Party

A marine cadet goes viral on social media after wearing the delivery rider uniform of his father during his graduation party.

Juan Carlos Oriano, 23, wore the clothes of his father, a delivery rider, to his graduation party. His story recently became viral, despite the fact that the graduation party took place on May 26, 2023, the day of their graduation.

Juan’s father works as a delivery driver. Juan, originally from Tondo, earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation from the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific in Mariveles, Bataan.

On May 26, he received the Exemplary Award during their graduation. Their Last Mess was held immediately upon graduation, as is customary for those graduating from such an institute. Cadets are permitted to wear whatever they choose.

“Bali yung huling kain po namin bilang kadete. Kaya po siya Last Mess. Kasi po, in our everyday life in the academy po, we are wearing the uniform. Huling kain po namin as kadete. Anything we want, anything under the sun, we can freely wear, whatever we want po,” he shared.

Juan’s original intention was to dress in Barong Tagalog since he aspired to be a politician one day. However, when he saw his father arrive home dressed in the uniform of the delivery service for which he works, Juan had an epiphany.

At the graduation ceremony, Juan’s green shirt stood out. His clothing was so eye-catching that her classmates mocked her. He also made a remark regarding where their orders were. Juan only smiled at them. But when he revealed the cause, Juan’s mockery transformed to respect.

“Bale, natatawa po sila. Pinagtatawanan nila ako. Tapos parang inaano nila na kantiyawan po na, ‘Uy, uy yung order ko. Nasaan yung order ko?’ Ganon. Kakaiba po yung uniform ko, as in ako lang po yung naka-delivery rider that time. Tapos hindi po nila alam yung story na yun kasi kakain lang naman po kami wearing that uniform,” he shared.

Juan posted the reason why he wore the delivery-rider uniform: to pay tribute to his delivery-rider father. “So, I took the opportunity in posting in Facebook para ma-explain po. Then na-amaze po sila na may story po pala yung [costume].”

Juan feels pleased to be the driver’s son. Bayani, his father, has been a driver for more than 30 years. His father worked as an Overseas Filipino Worker in the Middle East for ten years as a driver. He became a driver with the well-known Transport Vehicle Network Service (TNVS) after returning to the Philippines.
