EARTHQUAKE: 4.2 Magnitude Quake Rocks Davao del Norte

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Davao del Norte, July 5, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Davao del Norte, Wednesday night, July 5, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Sulu a few months ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao del Norte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake that struck Davao del Norte on Wednesday eve, July 5, 2023, at 07:14 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit the Island Garden City of Samal.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao del Norte was located at 07.13°North, 125.72°East – 006 km North 04° East of Island Garden City of Samal. It had a depth of focus of 028 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, the following intensities were felt in these areas:

Intensity I

  • Antipas, Cotabato
  • Maco, Davao de Oro

Intensity II

  • Makilala, Cotabato
  • Magsaysay, Bansalan, and Matanao, Davao del Sur
  • Panabo City, Davao del Norte

Intensity III

  • Kidapawan and Magpet, Cotabato
  • Santa Cruz and City of Digos, Davao del Sur

Intensity IV

  • Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte
  • Davao City
