PWD Graduating Student Shares College Journey “Sa pagiging deaf ko, matagal na akong nakakatanggap ng diskriminasyon“
In a heartwarming post that has captured the attention of netizens, graduating student Jude shares his remarkable journey and experiences throughout his years of education, despite facing challenging circumstances.
Jude Karlos Gonzalez Saniel, a deaf student, defied the odds by enrolling in a public college instead of a specialized institution for the deaf. Despite the financial constraints and the need to support himself, he persevered and pursued his dreams.
As a deaf student who attended a public college instead of a Deaf institution, Jude had long endured the burden of numerous expenses. He relied on his artistic abilities to earn enough money.
“I’m a deaf student na tumungtong sa Public College at hindi Deaf institution pinasukan ko. Matagal na akong nagtitiis sa dami ng bayarin, madalas kasi self-supporting lang at kapos si tatay sa pera. [Sa] pagiging artist ko, doon ako kumikita nang sapat. Hindi lang art pinagkikitaan ko kundi pagmamasahe at iba pang trabaho para [may] pandagdag sa daily expenses ko sa school,” Jude shared.
Saniel’s passion for art has not only helped sustain him financially but has also led him to assist elementary and high school students with their projects. Recognizing their need for artistic guidance, he accepts their modest payments, ensuring that they have something to submit rather than nothing at all.
Additionally, he dedicates his time to teaching young individuals, empowering them to participate in contests, with many of them qualifying at the regional level.
Despite facing discrimination due to his deafness, Jude continues to fight for his dreams. He recounts the challenges he has encountered, where even some of his own relatives tried to bring him down.
However, he persevered, overcoming various obstacles and never allowing himself to be held back. “Sa pagiging deaf ko, matagal na akong nakakatanggap ng diskriminasyon noon at hinihila nila ako pababa kahit pa mismong kamag anak ko ginaganoon nila ako. Pero lumaban ako sa sarili ko ng ilang taon hanggat naabot ko na ang matagal kong pinapangarap,” he shared.
The PWD student’s story serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the strength and determination required to overcome adversity. Despite the hurdles he faced, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of education and artistic passion.
