Tito Sotto stressed that the entertainment industry can accommodate different shows
Veteran showbiz personality Tito Sotto has this comment when their rival noontime show It’s Showtime was brought up.
Tito has been hosting the longest-running noontime show for more than four decades. Although he has not been as active as Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon because of his duties as a public servant, Tito is still frequently seen on the show.
In the recent battle that the TVJ and the Dabarkads went through, he stood as their leader and eldest brother.
In a media conference after the contract signing on June 20, Eat Bulaga’s rival show was brought up. Before TVJ and the Dabarkads transferred to TV5, the noontime slot is occupied by It’s Showtime.
The Kapamilya noontime show was offered to transfer to the 4:30 pm time slot but ABS-CBN refused because It’s Showtime was established and loved by Madlang People as a noontime show.
MediaQuest CEO and President Jane Jimenez Basas said that they prioritized TVJ’s show because TV5 acts as a partner, unlike in It’s Showtime’s case that it is just a blocktimer.
During the media conference, based on the article in The Philippine Star, TV5 President and Chief Executive Officer Guido R. Zaballero said that they respect the decision of the Kapamilya show to move to GTV. He also pointed out that it is a win-win situation for everyone and especially for the viewers.
“We respect the decision that they made. Ang pinakaimportante kasi is at the end of the day, panalo ‘yung Filipino viewers. This is a good day for TV. It proves that TV is really alive,” the TV executive said.
Tito Sotto also shared his thoughts on this matter. He pointed out that right now, there is a huge market that can accommodate different shows.
“When we started ‘Eat Bulaga’ in 1979, the population of the Philippines was only 47 million. ‘Eat Bulaga’ lang ‘yon at ‘Student Canteen.’ Now we are 110 million. There’s room for everyone,” the former Senate President said.
