Herlene Budol showed her comedic side during Miss Grand Philippines mediacon
Beauty queen-actress Herlene Budol received criticism for her “dogshow” answer during the Miss Grand Philippines sashing ceremony and media conference.
Herlene’s pageant journey caught the attention of many pageant fans for different reasons. There were those who think that her pageant stint is something inspiring because she was first known as a comedienne and it was unexpected for her to excel in this field.
However, there were those who do not like how she would present herself in the pageant arena, just like what happened recently.
Based on the article by PEP entertainment writer Jojo Gabinete, during the Miss Grand Philippines 2023 sashing ceremony and media conference at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria Hotel in Pasig City on June 20, 2023, Herlene Budol’s effort to be as natural as she is was too much.
When the Kapuso star, also known as Hipon Girl, was asked about her edge in winning this pageant aside from being popular, her answer or the way how she answered the question did not sit well with many netizens.
The interviewee asked her this question:
“Just checked the list of the candidates this year in Miss Grand International Philippines and your name is the only one that is hyperlinked, meaning you’re famous enough to be in the Wikipedia and you have millions of followers. I had the opportunity to meet and interviewed Mr. Nawat [Itsaragrisil, Miss Grand International president] last year and I know he loves someone who’s got a big social media following. Apart from your big social media following, what else have you got in order to win the crown?”
Herlene’s answer to this was probably unexpected by many pageant fans. “Thank you for that looong question for me… chariz.. I have a big followers because I have a big heart… O English yon, ha? Nakapag-compose po ako kaagad. Ano nga uli yung tanong?” she responded and then, the interviewee translated the question to Tagalog.
The Kapuso star gave her lengthy answer as well.
“I think this is the right time. Last year, siguro hindi ko po oras. Ang sabi nga ng adbokasiya ng Miss Grand is… ano ba yon? World peace and what else again? Stop the war and peace.
In my own experience, ayokong maranasan ng iba yon.
I’m from broken family. Mag-i-start po yan sa ating tahanan at magsisimula po tayo sa maliit na problema. Kapag naumpisahan po natin sa ating tahanan na maging world peace and for the love love lang ang mga person, I think, good example yon para ipalaganap sa kung kalahatan.”
Then, a cellular phone rang while she was speaking and she said, “Pakisagot po nung tumatawag.” Gabinete said that the beauty queen-actress used her comedic ability in answering the question and although her fans are loving it, there were those who criticized her.
Here are some of the negative reactions to Herlene Budol’s “dogshow” answer.
The columnist said that if the Kapuso star really wants to have a successful stint in the pageant arena, she should make sure that the “Herlene fatigue” or the time when people are not interested in her anymore will come.
Gabinete also said that there should be someone who would remind Herlene that being true to oneself does not mean making fun of oneself and the sensibility of other people.
What can you say about this?
