MMDA Appeals to Riders, Motorists Not to Use EDSA Bus Lane

MMDA Made an Appeal to Riders and Other Motorists Using the EDSA Bus Lane

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) appealed to the motorcycle riders and other motorists not to use the EDSA bus lane.

The MMDA has requested that passengers and other motorists refrain from using the EDSA Carousel Bus Lane. This comes after a rider was killed this Wednesday, at 5:00 a.m., when he was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) while using the bus lane in the EDSA Shaw Boulevard tunnel (southbound).

According to MMDA interim chairman Don Artes, the collision was filmed on closed-circuit television (CCTV). According to Artes, a white SUV collided with the rider’s motorcycle, which was then run over by a tanker in the opposite lane.

“It is with profound sadness that this incident happened. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the rider. We pray for their comfort in this difficult time,” said Artes during a press conference at the MMDA Central Office in Pasig City.

According to the MMDA, the EDSA bus lane is reserved for passenger buses, ambulances, and government-marked vehicles responding to emergencies. Artes stated that they continue to advise vehicles not to use the EDSA’s innermost lane as this may result in an accident.

Despite our repeated pleas, many drivers of privately owned automobiles and motorbike riders ignore the policy. Artes also urged the drivers of the SUV and tanker to come forward and cooperate with their agencies in the investigation of the disaster.
