Fisherman Drowned During Fishing Excursion
A fishing excursion along the Sinucalan River in Barangay Minien West, Pangasinan turned into a tragic incident when a fisherman drowned on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
The Sta. Barbara Police swiftly conducted a follow-up investigation and identified the victim as Elmer Abuel Quitoles, a 43-year-old resident of Barangay Catablan in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
According to the investigation, the victim’s cousin, George Arayat Quitoles, who was present at the scene, revealed that they decided to take a brief break from fishing due to heavy rain. Unfortunately, fate took a cruel turn when Elmer accidentally ventured into a deep portion of the river and was swept away by the current.
Despite the tragic turn of events, George managed to recover Elmer’s lifeless body. The personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan rushed the victim to Mapandan Community Hospital.
Unfortunately, the attending physician declared Elmer dead on arrival.
The untimely demise of Elmer Abuel Quitoles has left the local community devastated and grieving for the loss of a beloved member. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the inherent dangers of engaging in fishing activities, particularly during inclement weather conditions.
