JUST IN: 3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Eastern Samar

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Eastern Samar, June 12, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.6 magnitude quake in Homonhon Island, Eastern Samar today, Monday, June 12, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Sulu a few weeks ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Eastern Samar. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.6.

The earthquake that struck Eastern Samar, today, Monday, June 12, 2023, at 08:48 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Homonhon Island.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Eastern Samar was located at 10.70°North, 125.53°East – 022 km South 78° West of Homonhon Island. It had a depth of focus of 072 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was felt nor recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensities were recorded as well.
