Police Major and Local Gov’t Official Linked in the Deah of Radio Broadcaster in Oriental Mindoro
Authorities linked a police major and a local government official to the death of a radio broadcaster who was shot in Oriental Mindoro.
According to Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Paul M. Gutierrez, there are three people of interest in the killing, including a police major and a local government official in the stated province. Aside from the police major, his close associate should be questioned at a local “fun fair” about the death of Crescenciano “Cris” Bundoquin.
The Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) recommended criminal charges against the alleged gunman, Isabelo Lopez Bautista, 45, of Barangay Alcadesma, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro, according to the report. Bautista is still at large and has been the target of a huge police manhunt for nearly a week.
Bundoquin, a 50-year-old radio block timer for DWXR 101.7 Kalahi FM, was shot and killed before dawn on May 31 in front of his shop in Barangay Santa Isabel. Narciso I. Guntan, of Paclasan, Roxas, was killed after Bunduquin’s son and Bautista chased them in a car and collided with the suspects’ motorcycle, killing Guntan.
Guntan was the driver of the motorcycle, a Honda XRM125 with the license number DD22153, according to police. Bautista, the alleged gunman, was the back rider who fled on foot. According to SITG-Bunduquin’s background investigation, Guntan was convicted of breaking the hazardous drugs statute in 2015 but was released a year later after entering into a plea negotiating agreement.
Police Col Samuel Delorino, chief of the Oriental Mindoro police, stated that Guntan has a pending murder case in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, which was filed in 2016. Guntan was identified by the police using an identification card he provided.
Another ID, photo, and other personal stuff were also retrieved from the toolbox of the motorcycle. Another person of interest, according to Gutierrez, is a provincial official who allegedly uses Bautista as a driver on occasion and was also supposedly chastised by Bundoquin because of his radio program.
