Ex-PBA Player Got Shot by a 15-year-old Boy Who Asked for Money From Him
Ex-PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) player Eliud Poligrates was wounded after being shot by a 15-year-old boy who asked for money from him.
On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, former PBA player Eliud “Eloy” Poligrates is injured in the leg during a shooting incident in Barangay Duljo Fatima Cebu City. Eliud Poligrates had a bullet wound to the upper left shoulder.
The gunshot occurred at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday in Cebu City’s Sitio Micabaja, Barangay Duljo Fatima. According to Poligrates, the gunman was a child, a teenage male between the ages of 15 and 17.
In an interview with CDN Digital, the ex-PBA player stated that he was fetching a dumbbell when the child approached him and asked for money. Poligrates, on the other hand, turned down the boy’s requests. The former athlete then went to a local store, where he and some of his friends drank.
He stated he bought some beer there. However, Poligrates revealed that he was surprised to see the youngster following him to the store. The child allegedly asked the 36-year-old Poligrates in the store why he couldn’t give him P20 yet could afford to buy liquor.
According to the basketball player, he then pulled out his revolver and fired a shot at him. The shooter, who is now in police custody, acknowledged shooting Poligrates in self-defense.
In a separate interview, he said that Poligrates strangled him when he tried to beg for P20 a second time. The former PBA pro appeared to be in stable health, despite suffering a shoulder injury in the incident.
Poligrates was picked 27th overall by the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters, currently known as the TNT Tropang Giga, in the 2013 PBA draft. He moved throughout the league, appearing for teams such as the Air21 Express and the Kia Carnival.
