FORMER SEAMAN STORY – A former seafarer from Iloilonow owns a grocery store after years of hardwork.
Tata Muyco, a seafarer, shared his secret to growing his small business that he started during the pandemic. When he was unable to return to work due to the pandemic, he decided to start a small store in his hometown of Iloilo.
Though he was hesitant to take the risk, he used his savings to set up a small convenience store.
Muyco started small and did not give up. He focused on maintaining a good cash flow and decided to open a store in February 2020, during the pandemic year. It was difficult for him to return to work before, so he gathered the courage to enter the world of business.
So far, everything has been going well and they have been in operation for two years. As advised by the successful businessman, he applied a simple strategy of properly managing the money flow and choosing a good location.
They saved their earnings and also found a reliable and affordable supplier who could deliver everything they needed for their store.
“Nag umpisa lng din po ako sa maliit, hindi po ako sumuko, tamang cash flow lng, nag open po kami ng store namin Feb. 202, pandemic year, pahirapan po kasi dati makabalik sa trabaho kaya lakas loob na pumasok sa negosyo, so far ok din naman po, kapit lng 2 years na po kami,” Muyco said.
Tata’s simple strategy involves managing his finances well, finding a good location, saving his earnings, and finding a reliable supplier that offers the best prices.
He also advised that having a good supplier is crucial in the success of the business, and that’s why they rely on their supplier to deliver their goods.
