FDA Warns Public Against Counterfeit Versions of Branded Medicines
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public against counterfeit medicines circulating in the market.
FDA recently released an official statement on its website cautioning consumers and pharmacies about the existence of counterfeit medicines in the market.
According to the advisory, several popular over-the-counter pain relievers and flu medicines have been duplicated and are currently being sold to unsuspecting buyers.

The agency specifically named nine brands of medicines that have been found to have fake versions circulating in the market. These brands include Alaxan, Neozep Forte, Bioflu, Tuseran Forte, Ponstan, Diatabs, Kremil-S, Medicol Advance, and Lomotil.
To help consumers differentiate between authentic and fake medicines, the FDA provided photos of genuine drug products alongside their counterfeit versions.
The images reveal that the counterfeit drugs closely resemble the authentic ones, except for slight discoloration in some cases.

“The lot number, knurling and print appearance [of the counterfeit products] are not comparable with the standard features of the registered product,” FDA said.
Therefore, consumers and pharmacies are advised to be extra cautious and vigilant when purchasing these products.
The agency also warned establishments and outlets against selling or dispensing fake versions of branded medicines.
