Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Leyte, May 8, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.7 magnitude quake in Leyte today, Monday, May 8, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Leyte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.7.

The earthquake that struck Leyte, today, Monday, May 8, 2023, at 04:11 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Javier.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Leyte was located at 10.85°North, 124.87°East – 009 km North 53° West of Javier. It had a depth of focus of 004 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was felt and recorded of the said quake at the epicenter of the tremor as well as the nearby areas. Instrumental intensity I was recorded in Dulag, Burauen, and Albuera, Leyte while instrumental intensity II was logged in Javier, Mahablag, Baybay, and Ormoc City, Leyte.
