Pinoy Artist Receives Bible Verse From Client Instead of Cash Payment

Pinoy Artist Slapped w/ Bible Verse by Client “‘Ipag-pray over kita!”

A Pinoy artist has expressed his disappointment after his client gave him a Bible verse instead of cash for a portrait commission.

Artists and creatives often encounter requests for free work or services, with some people assuming that their talent and skills should be given out for free.

This issue has once again come to the forefront, with artist Chaboy Dela Cruz sharing a conversation he had with a woman who asked him to create a drawing for her without any compensation.

In his Facebook post, Dela Cruz shared screenshots of his conversation with the female client, who asked him if he could draw for her in exchange for a “prayer” on her social media page. He politely declined, explaining that drawing takes time and effort, and that he cannot make it for free.

“The reason for posting this convo with her is to… aware them na hindi po libre ang ganitong profession, and also hindi rin po natin pwedeng gamitin ang salita ng Diyos para sa mga bagay na wala namang kabukuhan,” Chaboy said.

Dela Cruz’s post has since gone viral, with many artists and professionals in the creative industry sharing their own experiences of being asked to work for free. The issue of undervaluing creative work is not new, and has been a long-standing problem for many artists and creatives.

In a society that often prioritizes the bottom line and profit over artistic expression and creativity, it can be challenging for artists to be compensated fairly for their work. Many artists struggle to make ends meet, with the pandemic only exacerbating the already difficult situation.
