Teacher & Students at WVSU-Pototan Campus Holds Class Under Shade of Tree Due to Excessive Heat Inside Classroom
One section at the West Visayas State University (WVSU)-Pototan Campus found themselves holding classes under the shade of a tree due to the excessive heat inside their classroom.
According to the teacher, Ms. Claudine Mae Leysa, the students were unable to focus properly in class due to the added exhaustion brought on by the sweltering weather. Moreover, the students were not comfortable inside the classroom.
Ms. Leysa further shared that some students even experienced asthma attacks due to the stifling heat. This prompted other students to request that classes be conducted outside the classroom for the time being.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (April 19, 2023) from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm during her class for 2nd-year Information System students.
Ms. Leysa also mentioned that she plans to continue holding classes outside the classroom for other students as well. This decision was made in order to prioritize the well-being and comfort of the students, ensuring that the extreme heat does not hinder their learning experience.
The temporary solution of conducting classes under the tree was implemented to provide a more conducive environment for learning, despite the challenges posed by the weather.
The situation highlights the need for appropriate measures to address the issue of classroom temperatures in order to create an optimal learning environment for students. It also underscores the importance of considering students’ health and well-being in the planning and management of classroom facilities.
