Will Isko Moreno go back to public service?
Actor-turned-politician Isko Moreno is rumored to become the next Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary.
Isko, also known as Yorme, is one of the showbiz personalities who successfully transitioned into having a political career. He started his career in politics in 1998 when he was elected as Manila councilor.
In 2007, he ran for Vice Mayor and won. He tried his luck for a higher position when he ran for Senator in 2016 but he did not win as he was just in 16th place.
Recent rumors surfaced that Isko Moreno is being offered by the administration of President Bongbong Marcos to be the next DSWD Secretary, based on the article in PEP. Back in May 2018, Yorme accepted former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s offer to be the DSWD Undersecretary.
He only served in that position for five months. It is because, in 2019, he ran for Mayor and won. After the 2022 elections, Yorme took a rest in politics. He concentrated on establishing his media company, Scott Media Productions, and went back to acting. His most recent acting project is the movie Martyr or Murderer.
Regarding the rumors saying that he will be the next secretary of DSWD, there is no direct confirmation or denial from the camp of the former Manila Mayor. When Isko’s manager Edwin “Daddie Wowie” Roxas was asked about this, he said that they haven’t talked about this matter.
Currently, Sec. Rex Gatchalian is the head of the said department. Under the law, candidates who were defeated in the elections can only be appointed a year after the elections.
Based on the article, there are speculations that it is possible that Isko Moreno will accept the offer to be the new DSWS Secretary.
