Female Commuter Gets Her Leg Caught in Drainage Hole in QC

Female Commuter Got Her Right Leg Trapped in Drainage Hole For Avoiding UV Express Vehicle

A female commuter had an unfortunate incident where her right leg became trapped in a drainage hole along Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City, Philippines.

According to reports, “Yanna” was waiting for her ride when a UV Express vehicle suddenly swerved, causing her to quickly move and unintentionally get her leg caught in the gap of the drainage hole.

“Medyo alanganin po ‘yung liko ng UV, so umatras po ako. Sakto, pagatras ko, ‘di ko po alam na may butas na drainage doon. Lumusot po ‘yung paa ko, and then parang nag-twist ako kaya po lumubog ako totally sa drainage,” she said.

Despite her best efforts to free herself, she was unable to extricate her leg from the tight grip of the drainage hole. Concerned passersby offered assistance, but her leg remained firmly stuck.

The Quezon City District Risk Reduction Management Office (QC-DRRMO) Search and Rescue team promptly responded to the scene and arrived in the evening around 8 PM. With their expertise, they were able to safely free Yanna from the entrapment.

Dale Perral of the Quezon City Engineering Office highlighted the potential dangers posed by such gaps in the road, emphasizing the need for proper infrastructure maintenance to ensure the safety of commuters.

“Dapat ito nakasara, unsafe ‘yan for the pedestrians. While it is in Quezon City, ‘yung authority po to maintain and to improve that national road is with the Department of Public Works and Highways. So we will be coordinating with them, and ask them. Baka naman kasi may ongoing maintenance works sa lugar na ‘yan. Unfortunately, hindi nila nalagyan ng harang,” Perral said.

In response, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)took immediate action and repaired the drainage hole to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future. They also extended an apology to Yanna and assured her of their readiness to provide assistance.
