Remulla Releases Statement In Response To Non-Bailable Warrant Issued Against Gerald Bantag

Here’s Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla Statement Regarding the Non-bailable Warrant Issued Against Gerald Bantag

REMULLA – Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla released a statement in response to a non-bailable warrant issued against Gerald Bantag.

Former Bureau of Corrections chief Gerald Bantag and his former deputy Ricardo Zulueta were named in an arrest warrant issued on April 12 by Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 206 Judge Gener Gito for their alleged involvement in the death of BuCor inmate Jun Villamor at the New Bilibid Prison in October of last year.

On October 3, 2022, broadcaster Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa was shot and killed outside his Las Piñas subdivision by self-confessed gunman Joel Escorial, who was allegedly recruited as a middleman by Villamor.

According to prisoners who performed affidavits, Jun Villamor was assassinated a few hours after Joel Escorial named him as the middleman during a live press conference on October 18.

Bantag, Villamor, and several others were charged with murder in March on two consecutive occasions for the murders of Lapid and Villamor. The cases were brought before the Muntinlupa and Las Piñas courts, respectively.

Following the issuing of an arrest warrant for Gerald Bantag, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla challenged him to “face the music” on Thursday. Based on a report from ABS-CBN, the issue of an arrest warrant was welcomed by Remulla.

“If you think you’re innocent, just come in and face the music. Ano naman yan e, the judges would be able to know if the truth is there. Alam naman nila yung totoo at hindi totoo,” Remulla said.

However, he said that he would hand the case up to the prosecutors.

“Law enforcement na yan. It’s already up to the prosecutors to do their job…we take custody of him. Hopefully we can arrest him or he will surrender, hopefully…”

“The law has a protocol on how to handle persons who will be arrested. So we will let the protocol of the law, the way that it runs, run its course. Yun naman talaga yung nangyayari. Pag may warrant of arrest, sini-serve yan in due time,” Remulla added.
