Gerald Bantag is Tagged by Witnesses as the Mastermind of Percy Lapid’s Slay
Suspended Bureau of Correction (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag is now tagged by some witnesses as the mastermind behind the death of Percy Lapid.
According to Danilo Pelagio, the attorney for Roy Mabasa, the journalist’s brother, Bantag was named as the murderer of Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa by numerous witnesses.
“My partner, Atty. (Berteni) Causing (Mabasa family’s spokesperson), has earlier tagged Gen. (Gerald) Bantag and it seems that we are looking at him as one of the masterminds,” said Pelagio.
Pelagio said that numerous new witnesses have come forward that implicate Bantag in the shooting after the alleged shooter Joel Escorial’s confession and the passing of the alleged middleman Jun Villamor. Based on the report, Villamor was declared dead inside the prison when he was about to be investigated.
When questioned if the witnesses had any proof against Bantag, Pelagio responded that bank deposits had disclosed and validated the money trail that had been used to pay the shooter. Some of them were born and raised on the Bilibid grounds, and others were gifts from an individual we are unable to identify at this time.
“They also specified or described how and who got the money in payment for the killing… Some of them raised inside the premises of the Bilibid and some of them were given by somebody which I cannot reveal right now,” he said.
Bantag disputed his participation in the crime. Pelagio further disclosed that some fresh suspects had been named as co-conspirators by the investigators. The Department of Justice (DOJ) stated that two masterminds are currently being looked into for the murder of Lapid.
According to DOJ spokesperson Mico Clavano, they are investigating two masterminds. The conspiracy includes a lot more people. All those who are in custody are being investigated as suspects and members of the conspiracy. He clarified that it is currently unable to make any statements on the identities or relationships of the two accused masterminds.
Because the stories of the witnesses and suspects are the same, Clavano claims that he does not currently anticipate any surprises. In addition, the DOJ claimed that it might file a case involving Lapid’s murder this weekend or on Monday.
