Balamban, Cebu to Prohibit Use of Plastic Bags Starting May 2, 2023

The town of Balamban, Cebu announced the total ban of plastic bags beginning May 2, 2023, eco-friendly bags and other alternatives will be served.

Effective May 2, 2023, stores located in the western town of Balamban in Cebu, Philippines, will be prohibited from using plastic bags as containers for merchandise purchased by customers.

The Balamban Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) recently issued a notice informing all businesses, including groceries and sari-sari stores, of this ban, which is in accordance with the implementation of Republic Act 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Menro, in its effort to promote environmental sustainability and reduce the detrimental impact of plastic waste on the ecosystem, has urged both customers and vendors to prepare and utilize eco-friendly bags and other alternatives as containers for purchases.
