Earthquake Today: 6.2 Magnitude Quake Rocks Catanduanes

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Catanduanes, April 5, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 6.2 magnitude quake in Catanduanes today, Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Catanduanes. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 6.2.

The earthquake that struck Catanduanes, today, Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 08:54 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Gigmoto.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Catanduanes was located at 13.90°North, 125.77°East – 150 km North 85° East of Gigmoto with a depth of focus of 072 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. The following intensities were recorded:

    • Alangalang, Baybay City, and Tabontabon, Leyte
  • Intensity II
    • Malinao, and Tabaco, Albay
    • Borongan City, Eastern Samar
    • Babatngon, Dagami, Dulag, Palo, Santa Fe, and Tanauan, Leyte
    • Tacloban, Tacloban
    • San Antonio, Northern Samar
  • Intensity III
    • Prieto Diaz and Sorsogon, Sorsogon
    • San Policarpo, Eastern Samar
    • Allen, Biri, Bobon, Catarman, Laoang, Lavezares, Rosario, San Jose,
      and San Roque, Northern Samar
    • Calbiga and Catbalogan City, Samar
  • Intensity IV
    • Virac, Catanduanes
