The police authorities arrested five male suspects over alleged involvement on ‘Laglag-Barya’ modus in Manila.

The CCTV footage captured the police’s operation to apprehend a group of suspects who allegedly victimized passengers of a jeepney and a UV Express on Taft Avenue in Manila, Philippines.

“Meron po silang nabiktima na dalawa, sila ‘yung humingi ng saklolo doon sa mga pulis natin na nandoon sa lansangan,” Malate Police Station chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Salvador Tangdol said.

The footage showed how the police surrounded the UV Express to arrest the suspects. According to the victims, the suspects gave them money to distract their attention before taking their belongings.

“Nilaglagan sila ng barya, ng coins, tapos nung pinulot niya ‘yung coins na nilaglag ng mga suspek, doon niya nahalata na wala na ‘yung gamit niya, Hindi niya agad na-pinpoint kung sino gumawa so bumaba siya at nagsumbong sa mga pulis na nagba-bike patrol,” he added.

The victims positively identified the suspects as Harold Royola, Ian Manalang, Pepito Villanueva Jr., Irineo Gonzales, and Renan Encarnacion.

Further investigation revealed that some of the suspects had previously been imprisoned for theft, and some were involved in drug-related cases and illegal possession of firearms.

The suspects admitted to their modus operandi and stated that poverty drove them to commit the crime.

Despite their admission, the victims are determined to file a complaint against the suspects. The suspects were found to have taken the victims’ wallet, cellphone, and cash amounting to P1,400.
