Bill Pushes Anti-Discrimination vs Motorcycle Riders on Checkpoint

Anti-Discrimination Bill for Motorcycle Riders on Checkpoint Being Push

A lawmaker pushes anti-discrimination bill for motorcycle riders during police checkpoint in the Philippines.

Senator Raffy Tulfo wants to put an end to apparent discrimination against motorcyclists, who are frequently marked to be detained at police checkpoints. Tulfo stated in its Senate Bill (SB) No. 1977 filing that a long queue of motorcycles at a police checkpoint is frequently seen on the streets, particularly in Metro Manila.

He stated that all four-wheel vehicles, including automobiles, pickup trucks, SUVs, and vans, will pass past the checkpoints. He claims that at the checkpoint, motorbike riders are touched, the compartment is opened, and any paperwork is examined.

Motorcycle Checkpoint Anti-Discrimination

According to the senator, evidence is sometimes placed in the pockets or compartments of the riders so that the police may find it. To avoid prejudice against riders, the proposal requests that the law be applied equally to both two and four-wheel vehicles, based on the article of the Senate of the Philippines.

Tulfo has also introduced legislation that would allow female students to wear pants as their uniform in order to encourage “freedom of choice, gender equality, and safety” among students. Tulfo noted that, while current uniform regulations are not harmful, they do have the potential to generate gender imbalance.

He went on to say that uniform policies must be created in such a way that they do not promote gender disadvantage and prejudice. Tulfo stated that wearing pants provides convenience in daily tasks in addition to providing a comfortable environment for the students.
