SURVIVOR DURING DEGAMO ATTACK – Junito Bugas, a local radio announcer in Negros Oriental, recalled what happened during the attack at the compound of the late Governor Roel Degamo.
Last March 4, the people of Negros Oriental were alarmed by news reports and talks about the attack that transpired at the residence of Gov. Roel Degamo in Pamplona. Men wearing pixelated uniform barged in the gate of the compound and lodged their motive.
Gov. Degamo and several victims were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, the Governor, his ally, and several civilians did not make it. There were people at his home even on a Saturday as he was working and they were seeking help from the Governor.
The widow of the Governor, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, called for justice to the national government over her husband’s death. She stressed that the Governor did not deserve that kind of death.
Several victims were confined in the hospital following the attack while some families mourn the death of their loved ones who did not survive the incident. Three (3) suspects were nabbed by the authorities five (5) hours since the attack happened. They tried to escape by going to the mountain areas.
