The name of Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves was dragged into the case regarding the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. One of the suspects accused him as the mastermind behind the plot.
Teves and Degamo are political rivals. The latter unseated the younger brother of Cong. Teves, Pryde Henry Teves, when the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared him as the rightful winner of the gubernatorial elections 2022.
Last March 4 (Saturday), Gov. Roel Degamo was attacked at his home in Pamplona. He was rushed to the hospital but he did not survive the incident. His ally and several civilians also died due to the attack.
Prior to being named by one of the suspects as the alleged mastermind in the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, Cong. Arnie Teves released a video where he expressed that he received an information that he will be pinned down in Degamo’s death.
Teves is still in the United States. He flew abroad prior to the incident for his treatment. However, his travel clearance was only until March 9, 2023. His camp previously expressed that he requested for an extension but the House has not granted it as the details must be specific.
Recently, the legal counsel of Cong. Arnie Teves, Attorney Toby Diokno, revealed the reason why the Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative has yet to return to the Philippines.
Based on a report on GMA News, the lawyer of Teves expressed that the safety of the Congressman is the concern as to why he has yet to return to the country. House Speaker Martin Romualdez previously advised him to go home and face the accusations.
Department of Justice (DOJ) Boying Remulla expressed that Teves will be secured. The Philippine National Police (PNP) also expressed that his safety will be ensured.
