House Speaker Romualdez Advises Cong. Roel Degamo to Face the Accusations against him
HOUSE SPEAKER ROMUALDEZ – The House Speaker issued a statement regarding Congressman Arnie Teves being linked on the death of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
Investigations are ongoing over the death of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, his ally, and several civilians last Saturday, March 4. Men wearing pixelated uniforms attacked the Governor at his house in Pamplona and several others were dragged into the incident.
At least five (5) people aside from Degamo died from the attack. According to his wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, the Governor was working on a Saturday as he really wants to dedicate his service to the people. There are several people who were at his home during the attack asking for help.
Three (3) suspects were arrested just five (5) hours after the attack. There are remaining suspects whom the Philippine National Police (PNP) believe to be still in the Negros Island. One of the suspects accused Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves as the alleged mastermind in the killing of Gov. Roel Degamo.
Prior to being tagged by one of the suspects as the alleged mastermind, Teves who is a political rival of Degamo expressed that he received an information that he will be pinned down in the case of the Governor. His brother, Pryde Henry Teves, was unseated by the Governor when the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared Degamo as the rightful winner.
Cong. Arnie Teves is currently in the United States for his treatment. Recently, House Speaker Martin Romualdez gave a statement regarding the accusation linking him to the death of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and several other people.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, House Speaker Romualdez expressed his advise to Cong. Arnie Teves to come back to the country as soon as possible and face the accusations. He stressed that the Travel Clearance that the House of Representatives has given the Congressman has expired and his stay abroad beyond it is no longer authorized by the lower chamber.
“We all want to hear his side of the story. Maraming buhay ang nawala maliban kay Gov. Degamo,” the House Speaker said.
