Roel Degamo Case: Plan for Killing of Negros Oriental Governor Started in December?

Update on Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo Case Investigation

ROEL DEGAMO CASE – The PNP said that the plan for the killing of the Negros Oriental Governor started as early as December 2022.

The national government assured the family of the late Negros Oriental former governor Roel Degamo and his constituents that justice will be served on his death and the passing of his ally and several civilians. The Governor was attacked at his home in Pamplona last March 4.

According to the Governor’s wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, he was working with his officials on a Saturday when the attack took place. There were some people who were at their home to seek for help but, instead, were also shot.

Men wearing pixelated uniforms entered the gate of the compound of the Governor and lodged their motive. Mayor Janice stressed that her husband who is dedicated to public service does not deserve that kind of death.

Currently, investigations over the Roel Degamo case are ongoing. Three (3) suspects were arrested by the authorities just five (5) hours since the attack and the Philippine National Police (PNP) believes that the remaining suspects are still in the island.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo was planned as early as December 2022. Police Liuetenant Colonel Gerard Pelare expressed that the suspects were recruited last year for casing and surveillance “to determine the best option on how to attack the governor”.

Pelare expressed that the suspects are “highly-trained individuals” who were hired to lodge the motive. He stressed that they were “well-prepared” as high-calibre firearms were used. According to the report, the police said that they are investigating everyone not just Congressman Arnie Teves.

Teves, a strong political rival of Degamo, was tagged by one of the suspects as the alleged mastermind in the death of the Negros Oriental Governor. His brother, Pryde Henry Teves, was unseated by Degamo after the Comelec declared the late Governor as the rightful winner of the May 2022 gubernatorial elections. Prior to him being tagged as the mastermind, Teves who flew abroad for his treatment released a statement saying that he received information that he will be pinned down in the Roel Degamo case.
