Teaching Orphans How to Lift Weights Is How Hidilyn Diaz Celebrates Her 32nd Birthday
HIDILYN DIAZ – Olympic Gold Medalist and Philippine Air Force Staff Sergeant Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo celebrated her 32nd birthday teaching orphans weightlifting.
Hidilyn set an Olympic weightlifting record by lifting 127 kg in the Clean and Jerk and a total of 224 kg at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, becoming the first Filipino athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. Liao Qiuyun of China, the holder of the world record, was one of the eight athletes she defeated.
For her 32nd birthday this year, the weightlifting champ teaches weightlifting to kids at the Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin De Porres orphanage in Bustos, Bulacan.
Olympic weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz visited the Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin De Porres orphanage in Bustos, Bulacan on February 21 as part of her birthday celebration this year. Her husband Julius Naranjo, as well as other athletes from their Hidilyn Diaz Weightlifting Academy, were with the famous weightlifter.
On her official Facebook page, Hidilyn Diaz posted a series of images from her birthday outreach on March 4.
Hidilyn Diaz recently explained on Instagram why this year’s event was special and memorable for her. “Kung may isang bagay akong na-realize, ito ay kung ano ang purpose ko sa mundo. Sa muling pagbisita namin ng asawa kong si @imjulius sa Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres para i-celebrate ang birthday ko, naramdaman ko ang saya sa puso ko na makita ang mahigit 100+ na mga bata na inaalagaan nila Father Boyet at lahat ng mga staff doon,” she wrote.
“Sa totoo lang, ang mga bata gaya nila ang nagbibigay sa akin ng inspirasyon para pagbutihin ko sa sport ko.
“Hindi pa rito natatapos ang aking misyon, at ito pa lang ang simula. At ang aking hiling ay matuloy-tuloy ko itong proyekto para sa mga bata,” she added.
