Darryl Yap said that he is not competing against Joel Lamangan
Martyr or Murderer director Darryl Yap has this reaction to the statement made by Oras de Peligro director Joel Lamangan that he accepted his defeat.
After Maid in Malacanang was released, Direk Joel stated in a press conference that he will do a movie that is “pang-tapat” to Direk Darryl’s movie. That statement was somehow a declaration of rivalry.
Both movies were released in cinemas on March 1. Direk Joel’s movie earnings were way below what MoM got. In line with this, the veteran director said that he expected this kind of result.
Direk Joel Lamangan added that he only hoped that their producer will somehow earn to finance possible future projects.
Direk Darryl Yap shared an article published in Philnews about this and in his Facebook post, he shared his reaction to what the veteran director said. The MoM director said that he is not competing against Direk Joel.
“Hindi ko kailanman matatalo si Direk Joel Lamangan; wala akong kahit gahiblang intensyon na makipagkumpetisya,” the younger filmmaker said.
He added that he does not intend to compete against someone who is already an “institution” in this industry. “Magkaiba kami ng paninindigan pero nasa isang mundo kami kung saan isa lamang akong fresh na orchid na nakikinabang sa lilim ng kanyang mayabong, matayog at matatag na punung-kahoy ng karanasan at reputasyon,” Direk Darryl Yap added.
Meanwhile, during Martyr or Murderer’s premiere night had a revelation about the third installment of Direk Darryl’s trilogy. It was revealed that award-winning actor Aga Muhlach will portray the character of President Bongbong Marcos.
