Joel Lamangan talked about the box-office result of his movie ‘Oras de Peligro’
Veteran director Joel Lamangan accepted that his movie Oras de Peligro was defeated by director Darryl Yap’s movie Martyr or Murderer.
The two movies were officially released in cinemas on March 1. Direk Joel’s movie tackled the hardships that Filipinos suffered during martial law while Direk Darryl narrated the side of the Marcoses during that era.
Prior to the showing of the movie, the two directors exchanged fiery statements against each other. Even actress Cherry Pie Picache who played a major role in Direk Joel’s movie slammed Direk Darryl.
A few days after the opening day, entertainment columnist Gorgy Rula wrote in his article in Pilipino Star Ngayon that according to people they asked, Martyr or Murderer got P15 million on its first day.
However, some “reliable sources” stated that the movie of Direk Darryl Yap had P8 million on the opening day.
Direk Joel Lamangan’s movie, on the other hand, only got almost half a million profit on its first day. In a radio interview, the veteran director said, “Isa lang ang nakita ko. Mayroon talagang mas makapangyarihan, hawak ang pera, binibigay ang mga tickets, binibigay sa Chinese Chamber of Commerce. May ganun! Hindi naman masama ‘yun. Naghahanap sila ng magandang marketing.”
He also said that the earning they have is quite okay already compared to other movies that were released after the Metro Manila Film Festival last December.
Direk Joel stressed that he was already expecting that more people will watch Direk Darryl’s movie but he hopes that at least his producer will earn from Oras de Peligro, in order to make another project in the future.
