Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Speaks on Gov. Degamo’s Death, Justice for Negros Oriental Politician
DEGAMO’S DEATH – Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. spoke on the death of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
The people of Negros Oriental are currently mourning the death of Governor Roel Degamo. It was just less than a year since Degamo assumed the governatorial post in the province.
However, last Saturday, many people were shocked and saddened when reports about Gov. Roel Degamo’s death crossed the surface. He was attacked by men wearing pixelated uniforms at his residence in Pamplona. At least five (5) civilians died due to the attack aside from the Negros Oriental Governor.
Gov. Degamo was rushed to the hospital but he did not survive the multiple wounds he obtained. He is survived by his wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, and their two (2) sons.
Several known personalities visited the wake of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo. One of them is Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr.
Abalos talked to the wife of the late Negros Oriental Governor. House Speaker Martin Romualdez also visited the wake of the Governor to pay his last respects and expressed his condolences to his bereaved family.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, in a press conference, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. assured the residents of Negros Oriental that he would seek justice for late Gov. Roel Degamo’s death.
Abalos stressed that such incident has no place in the country. He assured the people of Negros Oriental that the mastermind of the incident will be arrested. He also expressed that he will implement changes in some agencies in the province.
