Sara Duterte Approves Remote Learning During Weeklong Transport Strike

SARA DUTERTE – Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio approved remote learning during the weeklong transport strike.

In a previous article, the Association of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines condemned the Department of Education (DepEd) #MayPasok despite the transport strike. DepEd announced on Friday that the face-to-face classes will continue throughout the nation the following week even though there will be no transportation due to a strike by Jeepney drivers.

The difficulty students will have traveling to class the following week was highlighted by ACT. ACT claims that in light of numerous schools discontinuing physical education classes, DepEd’s hard stance is illogical.

Also, ACT asked DepEd to permit regional and division offices to postpone classes in the strike-affected areas. The aforementioned group of teachers, meanwhile, showed their support for PUV operators and drivers as they fight against the planned jeepney phaseout, which will make it more difficult for them to make a living.

Based on a report from Philstar, Vice President Sara Duterte, who is also the head of education, said all schools have the option of holding asynchronous classes this week because several transportation organizations are planning a week-long strike that will begin on Monday in opposition to the phaseout of traditional jeepneys.

The 44-year-old politician branded the transit strike “pointless” and made disparaging remarks to a teachers’ group that backed the strike, claiming that learning recovery is the Department of Education’s top concern.

Learning recovery is foremost on the agenda of the Department of Education today. It does not include the pointless weeklong transport strike supported by (the Alliance of Concerned Teachers),” she said.

In addition, Sara Duterte mischaracterized the transportation strike as being “communist-inspired” despite the stated goal of about 40,000 traditional jeepney operators and UV Express vehicle drivers to persuade the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to postpone the phase-out of their vehicles.

“I maintain that during this communist-inspired weeklong strike, both in-person and alternative delivery modes of learning shall be implemented, whichever is convenient to the learners,” Duterte said.
