DepEd Speaks on upcoming Week-Long Transport Strike & Classes

DEPED – The Department of Education spoke on the possibility of implementing class suspension amid the transport wide set next week.

One of the scenarios that could affect thousands of people in the Philippines is a transport strike. It happens almost every year due to various reasons. In most cases, it is in line with the pursuit to push the call for fare increase.

However, for this upcoming week, a week-long strike has been set by the members of the transport sector in protest of the set phaseout of traditional jeepneys in favor of modern vehicles. A lot of drivers are determined to join the protest.

However, the transport strike that it is set to last a week will undoubtedly affect a lot of people. Most of these individuals are students who are off to their schools and workers who are heading their workplaces through public commute. Will the classes continue in DepEd schools amid the transport strike?

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Education (DepEd) expressed that there will be no suspension of classes amid the week-long transport strike. Education Department spokesperson Michael Poa made the announcement.

According to Poa, those students who will not be able to attend the face-to-face classes in schools due to the transport strike must be allowed “to continue learning through Alternative Delivery Modes”. The said modes include modules and online classes.

In the case of some schools, based on the report, they already made the announcement that they will temporarily implement for most online learning from March 6 to March 12 due to the transport strike.
