House Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto Pushes 3-Day Paid Leave for Parent Employees

3-Day Paid Leave for Parent Employees Proposed by House Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto

House Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto is pushing for a 3-day paid leave for working parents to attend school activities for their children.

Recto, the representative of the 6th District of Batangas, filed House Bill (HB) 6966 or the “School Visitation Rights Act”. The aim of the bill is to strengthen the involvement of parents in the education system in the country by supporting the activities of their children that require their presence in school.

It was explained that there are working parents or legal guardians who cannot easily be absent from work to attend school and participate in the activities of their children. If enacted as a law, the solon said that they will be given the right, time, and opportunity to participate in the educational and behavioral conferences of their children.

According to the proposal, employees who have worked for no less than 6 months and whose children attend public or private preschool, elementary, and secondary schools are among those covered.

Meanwhile, the child can be a biological, adopted, foster child, stepchild, or legal ward.

It is also stated that employee parents or guardians will be required to submit documentation or proof of attendance at the school of their child. It was also added that if no evidence of attending school and participating in the activities of their children is presented, they may be subjected to the appropriate “disciplinary procedures” due to “unexcused absences” from work by the parents.
