JK Labajo is embracing his actor side
Singer-actor JK Labajo has this answer when asked if he wants to do a project with director Darryl Yap.
JK has his first lead role in the movie through the musical film Ako si Ninoy which is directed by Vince Tanada. This can be said to be outside JK’s comfort zone as he is first known as a singer after he joined The Voice Kids in 2014.
From being a singer, JK is now proving that he can also act. Although he has already done some acting stints in the past, this movie is a major project. Previously, he admitted that he had mixed feelings when this role was offered to him.
In a recent interview, based on the article by entertainment columnist Rose Garcia in Abante, JK Labajo said that he enjoyed doing the movie about former Senator Ninoy Aquino.
During the premiere night, the singer jokingly said that he enjoyed filming the movie too much that he would just leave his singing career. That was a big joke as JK’s first love is singing and he is set to release a new album this year.
He also shared that he has done his own research when it comes to his role. “Definitely, kasi, no’ng binigay po sa akin ni Direk Vince ang character, siyempre as an actor, it’s really a scary character to play. It’s a real person as compared to playing a character na fictional. Tapos, kinausap ko si Direk on how close he wants me to act as Ninoy. And then, sabi niya, you don’t have to act actually as Ninoy,” JK shared.
Ako si Ninoy is set to be shown at almost the same time as Martyr or Murderer‘s release, the movie about the Marcoses which is directed by Darryl Yap. The issue between the Aquinos and the Marcoses has been part of Philippine history.
In line with this, JK said, “We all have that freedom in making arts. I’m not really sure if I have a positive opinion when it comes to changing history. That’s definitely something else, but at the end of the day, we’re just making a film, following what’s on the books that we learned from school. At sana ma-enjoy nila.”
When asked if he wants to do a project with Direk Darryl. “No, I’ve definitely don’t want to be directed by Darryl Yap,” JK Labajo said.
With this, the columnist added this note: “Ang tanong, gusto ba siyang idirek ni Darryl Yap?”
