Woman Using the Identity of Samar Mayor to Scam Money from Individuals Arrested

Authorities arrested a woman who used the identity of Gandara, Samar Mayor to scam money from individuals.

A female scammer was imprisoned after posing as Gandara, Samar Mayor Warren Aguilar on Facebook. According to the article, the scammer allegedly extorted P1 million from various persons, including the mayor’s relatives.

Nicole Jann Babagay, of Barangay San Policarpio in the said town, was identified as the suspect by police. Babagay has been posing as Aguilar on Facebook and requesting money since November of last year.

The scammer’s complaint, according to the report, reached Mayor Aguilar. The mayor and authorities investigated the incident and determined the identity and location of the suspect.

Babagay was arrested while celebrating her birthday with her friends in Calbayog. She was arrested on a warrant for violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act, according to the report of Police Files Tonite.

Babagay was previously charged with swindling and estafa several years ago. Babagay was arrested on suspicion of breaking the Cybercrime Prevention Act. Aguilar encouraged other victims to come forward and file criminal charges against the suspect.
