BSP Warns vs Fake P150 Bill Circulating on Social Media

BSP Warns Public Against Fake P150 Bill Allegedly Circulating on Social Media

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has warned the public against the fake P150 bill allegedly circulating in social media.

The BSP issued a warning on Thursday, February 2, that no P150 banknotes bearing Dr. Jose Rizal’s face had been released. According to them, the photographs of banknotes circulating online are “fictitious”.

As a result, the agency recommended the public carefully examine information on banknotes and coins found on social media and other platforms. To confirm, the consumer should visit the BSP website, specifically the Notes and Coins section.

“The public is advised to always check the legitimacy of information found on social media and other channels regarding Philippine banknotes and coins. To verify, visit the Notes and Coins section of the BSP’s official website www.bsp.gov.ph,” BSP said in a statement.

Persons involved in the issuance or circulation of counterfeit currency can also be reported to the SP Payments and Currency Investigation Group through email at [email protected]. You can also reach us at +63-2-8988-4833 or +63-2-8926-5092.

“The central bank encourages the public to report persons involved in the manufacture and/or distribution of counterfeit Philippine currency to the BSP Payments and Currency Investigation Group at email address [email protected] or through telephone numbers +63-2-8988-4833 and +63-2-8926-5092,” they added.

The BSP previously issued limited edition P150 coins to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the martyrdom of Catholic priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora or Gomburza. Aside from a false note with Rizal’s face, the agency also disproved a P500 bill with a tarsier, a P5,000 note with Lapu-Lapu’s face, and a P100 coin.
