Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Sur, February 1, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur today, Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a different part of Surigao del Sur. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.8.

The earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur today, February 1, 2023, at 04:04 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Cagwait.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 09.15°North, 127.27°East – 110 km North 77° East of Cagwait with a depth of focus of 027 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, no intensity as well as instrumental intensity were recorded of the said quake.
