After being missing in 2000, their bodies were never found right away. Their remains, charred remains, were discovered the following year, in April 2001, in a creek in Cavite. The remains were identified as their through their dental records and personal items.

Michael Ray Aquino, chief of operations of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF) faced charges regarding the case in May 2001. In June 2001, Senior Supt. Glenn Dumlao, deputy chief for operations of PAOCTF-Luzon was arrested and in his sworn statement, former President Joseph Estrada and former senator Panfilo Lacson might acknowledge the manslaughter.

In June 2001, Estrada was cleared of the case.

Former police officer Senior Supt. Cezar Mancao II was also arrested and together with Aquino, they were accused by Dumlao as part of the group that planned the manslaughter.

Aquino and Mancao fled to the US in 2001 and in 2003, Dumlao also left the country. In 2006, Aquino and Mancao were ordered to be arrested due to probable cause. It was in 2008 that they were finally arrested in the US following the request of the PH government.

Mancao plead not guilty and turned state witness but was removed from the Witness Protection Program because of the inconsistencies in his statements in the year 2012 but he escaped.

And in 2023, another suspect has been arrested, former police officer William Reed. He was nabbed last January 22 in Bulacan. He has a pending arrest warrant and for over two decades, he’s been at large, hiding.

Reed is among the names on the police’s most wanted list. He is currently detained at the Regional Special Operations Group according to the NCRPO.
