Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, January 18, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 7.3 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Maguindanao del Norte a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 7.3.

The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental today, January 18, 2023, at 02:06 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 02.69Ā°North, 127.05Ā°East – 352 km South 30Ā° East of SaranganiĀ  with a depth of focus of 064 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, the following instrumental intensities were recorded of the said quake:

    • Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
    • Nabunturan, Davao de Oro
    • Glan and Kiamba, Sarangani
    • General Santos City, Tupi, Santo NiƱo, Koronadal City, and T’Boli, South Cotabato
  • Intensity I
    • Kidapawan City, Cotabato
    • Maitum and Maasim, Sarangani
    • Tantangan, Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Suralla, and Norala, South Cotabato
    • Zamboanga City
    • Zamboanga del Sur
