Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Oriental, January 18, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental today, Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Maguindanao del Norte a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao Oriental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.0.

The earthquake that struck Davao Oriental, January 18, 2023, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Governor Generoso.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located at 06.20°North, 126.33°East – 058 km South 30° East of Governor Generoso with a depth of focus of 125 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, the following instrumental intensities were recorded of the said quake:

    • Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
  • Intensity I
    • Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental
