2 Passengers Injured After Power Bank Catches Fire During Flight
A power bank allegedly catches fire during a Taiwan to Singapore bound flight, which injured at least two passengers.
On Tuesday evening (January 10, 2023), Flight TR993 is set for take-off from Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan at 7:35 pm and is expected to arrive in Singapore at around 12:20 am the next day.
Unfortunately, the flight turned into a disaster a portable charger reportedly catches fire. The aircraft personnel immediately notified the airport authorities. Firefighters quickly went to the scene to put out the fire.
The aircraft returned to the airport tarmac from the runway after the authorities put out the fire. Two passengers got injured during the incident. The victims sustained minor burns on their fingers.
The social media users posted the pictures of aircraft’s interior filled with dense white smoke. According to reports, the passengers made the decision to keep going after a medical assessment revealed they did not require hospitalization.
As of Wednesday morning at 12:30, departure information indicated that the flight was still running late.
A customer’s rechargeable power bank overheated while the aircraft was on the ground and the flight safely was able to return to the gate. Affected passengers also received free meals and accommodation.
“Medical assistance has been rendered to the owner of the power bank and his companion, who sustained minor burns to their fingers. We are rescheduling the flight and will provide affected passengers with accommodation and meals,” Scoot said.
