Remulla on Son Acquitted vs Drug Case: “I’m glad justice is served”

DOJ Sec Boying Remulla Reacts to the His Son Acquitted Against Drug Case

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla gives a reaction to his son being acquitted of his drug case.

In a chance interview, Remulla stated that he did not intervene in his son’s case involving illicit drug possession until the court acquitted him on Friday. In the first place, he believes his son has the right to be assumed innocent.

Remulla Son Acquitted Case

He expressed relief after his son Juanito Jose Remulla III was acquitted of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 by Las Pias City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 197 Judge Ricardo Moldez II.

“He had the right to be presumed innocent in the first place, I am just glad justice is served,” the secretary told reporters.

Based on the report, Remulla’s eldest son was cleared of cocaine possession charges after a local court in Las Pias concluded that the evidence was insufficient to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Juanito Jose Remulla III was detained in October of last year after receiving P1.3 million in “kush,” or high-grade marijuana, in a controlled delivery operation at his home in Barangay Talon Dos. He pleaded not guilty to violating Section 11, Article II of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Acting presiding Judge Ricardo Moldez II of the Las Pias Regional Trial Court Branch 197 found in a 34-page judgment that there was no clear evidence that Remulla, 38, “freely, knowingly, and with full knowledge acquired the claimed seized illegal narcotics.”

The court also remarked that his behavior when he received the package indicated that he was not anticipating any parcel. The prosecution also failed to establish that the accused had official knowledge that the box contained high-grade marijuana.
