Malacañang Releases Marcos Memo on PhilHealth Contribution Hike
Malacañang released a memorandum bearing the decision of President Bongbong Marcos on the PhilHealth contribution hike this year 2023.
A lot of Filipinos are members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or more commonly called PhilHealth. It is a state-run health insurance agency where members make a monthly contribution that qualifies them for assistance in times of medical emergencies and health reasons.
Members of PhilHealth can turn to the social insurance institution in times of hospitalization due to disease, giving birth, operation, and several other factors included in the coverage.
PhilHealth observes a schedule on increasing the monthly contribution of members. It is set for another hike this 2023 but Malacañang released a decision against what is initially set.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang released a memorandum citing the decision of Pres. Bongbong Marcos over the set PhilHealth contribution hike. Through the order, the 65-year-old Chief Executive mandated the postponement of the increase on the members’ PhilHealth contribution.
Under the Section 10 of the Universal Health Care Act, the premium rate for PhilHealth is supposed to increase from 4% to 4.5% this year. It will not push through as the President cited the current condition of the economy in the Philippines.
This is not the first time that the PhilHealth contribution was was suspended. In 2021, the same case took place in the Philippines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his first New Year message, Pres. Bongbong Marcos reiterated his call for continued unity among the Filipino people citing the economic challenges in the country now. Several products currently have high costs. According to the President, it is the solidarity of the Filipino people and the love for one another and the country that will help us all get through the challenges.
