Earthquake Today: 5.3 Magnitude Quake Hits Camarines Norte

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or PHIVOLCS logged a 5.3 magnitude quake in Camarines Norte.

A strong quake with a magnitude of 5.3 hit Tinaga Island today. Phivolcs released a bulletin containing details about the quake.

EARTHQUAKE CAMARINES NORTE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.3 magnitude earthquake in Tinaga Islands today, December 7, 2022.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs was the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released then.

Previously, Phivolcs also recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.

Recently, a quake hit a part of Camarines Norte, December 7, 2022. At 01:05 p.m., Tinaga Island was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Camarines Norte was located at 14.56°North, 123.11°East – 019 km North 62° East of Tinaga Island with a depth of origin of 001 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. Intensity II was felt in Quezon City and the following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
